Year 3 travel back in time…

Year 3 have been studying the Stone Age this half term and have learned about what life was like around 2.3 million years ago, when man started making stone tools.  They have found out about the 3 main era of the Stone Age and how the homes, tools and land use changed over time.  They have also watched a Stone Age Dragon’s Den where some people try to convince the dragons that wheels and fire are a good idea!

They have also learned some gory facts about how the people from the ‘Savage Stone Age’ used every part of an animal once they had caught it, including drinking the blood and eating the brains!

The children were challenged to make a tool or weapon that we had learned about using no glue, scissors or tape.   Here are their awesome finished pieces….

Some tools are for digging, some for cutting and some even for hunting.

Year 3 and Reception Buddy up for Reading!

Year 3 and Reception children enjoyed their shared reading session this week.  Our Reception children chose a buddy from year 3, picked a book and sat and relaxed with a story.

The Year 3 children loved being storytellers and the Reception children were very excited about the older children reading some of their favourite stories.

We voted as a class to do it again soon…

Year 3 Are Presenters!

This half term, the children in Nelson class planned, wrote and filmed their own wildlife shows.  They have learned about where the rainforests are in the world, what a rainforest is like and about who and what lives in the rainforest too.

They worked in teams to create their own shows with inspiration from BBC’s ‘Deadly 60.’  The children were thrilled with their documentaries and we are planning to invite parents in to see them too!

Watch this space for the preview!

Year 3 Story Morning

A big thank you to all of the year 3 parents who came along to our story morning on 20th November.  We enjoyed listening to the story of The Tin Forest and discussing the main character of the old man.  We then divided into two teams and created a tin forest and a real forest with toucans, tigers and tree frogs.
