Next year

Yes it has been officially confirmed we are together for another year children and parents!  I am delighted to be keeping the children for another year and seeing them through to the end of their time at St George’s Primary School.

I have high expectations for them as the first ever Year 6 class for the school, but I did when they started Year 5 and they all lived up to my expectations.  The children have thrived in confidence, making new friends and academically this year.  All children have made good progress in Reading, Writing and Maths, with many children having already met all the objectives for Year 5.

Here’s to another successful year together.

Collaboration

We have continued to work on our aims for Year 5.  We have been working in different groups showing we can collaborate with people we don’t normally work with.

Summer term newsletter

Welcome back to the final term of Year 5.  We are joined this term by Miss Fogden, an LSA who is new to the school, in the mornings.

Curriculum: In English we will be looking at persuasive writing, discussion texts and author’s use of language through our class novel of ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes.  This half term our topic is The Vicious Vikings; in Science our topic is Forces.  In Art the children will be working on tile printing.  In Computing we will be learning how to create short films using software called ‘Pivot animator’ which is free and can be downloaded at home for them to use if they wish to.  In PSHE we will be focussing on staying safe online.

PE: Our PE lessons this half term will be on a MONDAY afternoon and a Friday morning.  Please ensure your child has the correct labelled clothing in school on these days.

Homework: It will continue to be set on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday.  It will generally be based on what we have been learning in class.  Please encourage your child to complete and hand their homework in on time.  If they are unsure they can ask for help at school.

Please remember home spelling books need to be in school every Thursday for new spellings to be set on Fridays.

Please make sure the office have an up-to-date mobile number so you receive text messages.

If you have any questions please leave a message with Mrs Butt or see me after school.

Thank you,

Miss Rhodes
