Y5 On stage! Jan.2018

We had our first rehearsals at OPEN today getting to know the theatre.  We thought we were loud until we had such a large space to fill.

During our lunch break we went to a park to play, but it started to hail.

The children all had a choice of staying outside in the hail or going in to the warmth- every child chose to stay outside.  The staff were delighted!

Y5 We will be famous! January 2018

Our opera rehearsal was videoed for BBC look East today.  Some of the children were also interviewed.

Susie Fowler-Watt, the presenter from BBC Look East, was very impressed that the children asked to do Maths work when they weren’t involved with the rehearsals.

Nursery Day and Dec. 2017

We carried on our theme of mystery and magic with day and night focusing on night time. This included looking at the moon, stars, shadow work and nocturnal animals. We read stories such as owl babies, night monkey, day monkey and Whatever next. The children were excited by the dark and created light and shadows through the dark den.

Our mystery and magic continued into Christmas activities where we wrote letters to Santa, read stories about him and made Christmas decorations and cards. We had a nursery Christmas party where the children had a visit from the jolly fellow himself!!

Nursery staff would like to wish you a merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the new yearfor our new topic of Fairytales.

The children were very well behaved today as they listened to all of Act one and joined in with their part at the end.  They sang with real enthusiasm into the afternoon too- Well done Starfish, I am proud of you.

Y5 Poetry readings November 2017

The children have been learning the poem ‘Leisure’ this week:

then worked in groups to perform it aloud using expression.  We followed this up in the afternoon by visiting the beach to see what we could see, hear, smell and feel to write our own versions based on the beach rather than a field.

On the farm

The children have been learning all about farming. We know the animals that belong on the farm and we know the noises they make.

We have learnt that the food we eat is grown on a farm and tractors have a very important job to do.

“Tractors have big wheels” Malik

“The tractors go slowly” Filipa

We made a big scarecrow and named him George. We looked at different shapes when making our own scarecrow heads. Some had triangle hats and some had square hats.

After listening to the ‘scarecrow’s hat’ story we created our own cornfields.

Our Harvest Festival is on Wednesday 18th October at 9am or 2.30pm. We have been practicing our song “we are little pumpkins” ready for our performance.

Remembrance Day 2017

As part of Remembrance Day, Stingrays took part in a WW1 Project. We researched some of the soldiers that enlisted during the war who were also alumni.

We researched Francis Balem (1892 – 1916) an ex pupil of St Georges who bravely served in the Canadian regiment. His name can be observed in the memorial plaque in St Georges outside the hall.

In light of this moving project, in Year 4 we explored what life was like in the trenches and wrote journals from the point of view of the young soldier but also the loved one who would have to wait agonizingly for the war to end.

We also wrote poetry in the style of a Cinquain. This kind of poetry follows a 5-line verse with the each line having a specific syllable count, following a 2, 4, 6, 8 and finally 2 count. Our poetry was based around the war.

Mystery and Magic!

This half term nursery’s topic has been mystery and magic. We started off with witches and wizards linked to Halloween and then read room on the broom.

From this we recalled the story through pictures and drama, made magic wands and carried out various counting activities

Divali Yellow Ted November 2017

We have been learning about the festival of lights Divali. The children dressed up in special clothes, made bracelets and rangoli patterns. The children made special Divali decorations and placed lights around the room ready for the special party we had. They had an opportunity to try many different foods and listen to some Divali music.
