Into Opera Y2 2018

Today, year 2 were visited by Into Opera for a World War 1 poetry workshop day. We had a brilliant day composing our own WW1 songs with a tenor, composer and artistic director. We finished our workshop singing ‘Stille Nacht’ (Silent Night) in German followed by ‘Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag’ complete with choreography! A thought provoking and lively end to the day. Smiles all around! 🙂

The Great War (WW1) at the Time and Tide Museum Y2 2018

Today the children have transformed into nurses, soldiers and pilots at an enjoyable morning of enrichment at the terrific Time and Tide museum!

We have tried our wings at flying  a WW1 Bi-plane with Captain Cadbury in the Royal Air Corp; the children appeared to particularly enjoy learning to fly the aircraft! This was before we visited a soldier on the front line to get our hands on the real kit!

As nurses we cleaned disgusting bedpans, made beds, performed surgery extracting deadly shrapnel and bandaged the injured.

The children have been talking about our morning activities all afternoon and we look forward to posting the children’s topic writing in the near future!

Y4 World Book Day March 2018

We looked at stories from Aesop’s Fable and discussed story telling. In light of this, we thought about the animals and how they were portrayed in the story and how we could bring them to life in an imaginative way.

We were inspired by the Tortoise and the Hare and the second story; the Ant and the Grasshopper.

Feeling inspired by the works of Jen Buckley, we painted animals from the tales using water colours. During the morning, we learnt how to draw, sketch and then use water colours.

Fantastic art by Jen Buckley

Time and Tide Museum.

Last week Year 1 visited the Time and Tide Museum to learn more about local history in and around Great Yarmouth.

They learnt how to ‘Seaside Rock’ (dance); investigated objects from the 1900’s with Victoria who was a time travelling lady that fell asleep on a train and watched a Punch and Judy Show.

The children had a wonderful day and staff from the museum said what a lovely group of children our year 1’s are and what a pleasure they were to have visited the museum.

We are looking forward to our next trip after the half term…
