It was lovely to see so many of you today.  Don’t worry if you couldn’t join us today you are still very welcome to join us tomorrow.  We will be meeting on zoom at 9:45 every day.

If your having any problems your first step is to get onto your emails using your school email address and let me know what the problem is and I’ll try to help you.  We are all learning new skills together.

Tuesday 5th January

Today our work can be found on google classrooms.  You need to sign in to google in the top right hand corner of the page using your school email address which has been texted to your parents.

Once logged in you can either go through your email and click on the invite I sent you to access google classrooms or click on the 9 dots in a square in the top right corner and choose google classrooms from there.

On the ‘stream’ page on google classrooms you can find the zoom link for our meeting today or use the link texted to your parents.  You need to join me at 9:45 for the register and to discuss what we will be doing that day.  We will then discuss the times during the day we will be meeting again.

When joining zoom you will be put in a ‘waiting room’ until I let you join the meeting- please be patient!  You don’t need to download zoom to use.  Click on the link and then in little blue writing it will say ‘join with browser’, if you click on that you can join instead of downloading.

Monday 4th January

Hello my lovelies, I hope you had a good Christmas.  As you know by now we are not in school at the moment but that is no excuse to stop learning.  Your work for today is here and yes I will be checking up on you!

Writing- As requested we will be looking at different writing genres each week so you can do your own writing.  This week we will be looking at sci-fi as a narrative genre.  Look at the text below and see if you can identify some of the features that make it sci-fi.  We will be using this text later in the week for reading.

Reading- On Mondays we will be answering mixed questions on a new text:

Maths- Today we are multiplying fractions.  You all know how to do this (multiply across) but to make it 6E you need to simplify your answers.  That is when you divide both parts of the fraction by the same number to make the digits as small as possible.  Use the button with the question mark / on your keyboard to enter your answers in the form.

Christmas Holidays

I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday.

I would appreciate it if you could use this time off school to have any outstanding dentist and opticians appointments so your child can return to school ready to learn.

Autumn Term

What a busy term it has been and how quickly we have all settled into the new routines.  We have completed our concept work on Perspective with our central enquiry question of ‘Is there one right view?’  The children showed good understanding on a range of new learning and have developed their understanding of how their perspective is shaped in particular.

We have started our new concept of Health with a focus on how we can be physically healthy.  Next term we will start looking at how we can be mentally healthy and what provision is there to support us to be healthy.

The aims for this unit, in addition to curriculum aims, are:

  • To take ownership of their own health
  • To develop research skills

Maths: We will be calculating missing angles using straight lines.  Opposite angles made when 2 lines cross are equal so in this diagram angle a is the same size as angle b:

Now try the sheet of angles work you have.

Extended writing: Today we are writing what we imagine August’s first day at school will be like.  Think about the characters we have already been introduced to (children and teachers); how will they all respond.  Try to include speech as this is narrative.

Concept: We are looking at Light in science.  Find yourself a torch and a dark room and try these activities.
